HEC Montréal has plans for a building of more than 18,000 square metres, at a cost of $94 million, on the lot belonging to the Fabrique de la Basilique Saint-Patrick. The project raises many questions. Will the park be preserved? Will the project be built solely on the narrow footprint currently taken up by the basilica parking lot? Surely such an imposing structure will be detrimental to the listed heritage property, being so close to it? Will the project be integrated harmoniously into its surroundings, and will the ruins of St. Bridget’s Refuge be preserved?
