Update from the Fabrique of Saint-Édouard Parish
February 8, 2021
Since the early 2000s, Saint-Édouard Parish has invested $800,000 to ensure the repair of its heritage buildings—namely, the church and the presbytery. In October 2020, architect Paule Boutin updated the condition assessment report for Saint-Édouard’s heritage buildings. Following this update, restoration work valued at $800,000 is planned over the next two years (2021–2023). In spring 2021, we will launch a fundraising campaign to help maintain these heritage buildings over the next five years. These spaces are now used by more than thirty community organizations serving the local population.
On July 12, 2021, a press release from the Office of the Minister of Culture and Communications of Quebec quoted “the Minister for Transport and Minister Responsible for the Metropolis and the Montreal Region, Ms. Chantal Rouleau, [who] announced, on behalf of the Minister of Culture and Communications, Ms. Nathalie Roy, that a total of $4,069,476 will be granted for the restoration of religious heritage buildings in the Montreal region.” In total, seven religious buildings will receive financial assistance from the government to carry out renovation work. Among them is Saint-Édouard Church, which will receive $280,000 to carry out roof restoration work.
Despite this funding, the parish still requires additional funds for other essential repairs and restoration efforts.
