The Art Deco interiors of the Sternthal Building are undergoing major alterations that are distorting their original appearance. Finishes in common areas such as corridors, stairwells and the main lobby are being demolished. Light fixtures, marble, terrazzo and period metalwork are gradually being replaced by gypsum and carpet. This 12-story building designed by Bernstein and Mayerovitch in 1949 is located in downtown Montreal. Note that the building at 1407 Saint-Alexandre Street, which is adjacent to the south of 1435, is also the subject of a Memento citizen alert.
