Although the project appears to involve renovating only a portion of the building, a call for tenders posted on the Constructo website states that “the current mandate consists of developing scenarios and corresponding estimates for the transformation of the 1907 component of Brittain Hall, which will allow the College to define an appropriate scope of construction work and also develop the functional and technical program for the new space.” This suggests a transformation and/or demolition to make way for new buildings.
Additionally, McGill University sold the building to the college in 2022. In its report, the university stated: “It was noted that Brittain Hall does not support the University’s academic mission and strategic priorities, and its disposition is consistent with the McGill University Master Plan. Additionally, the required investment to stabilize the condition of this building is not financially sustainable.” This points to a bleak future for the building.
