The Marie-Gérin-Lajoie theatre at UQAM is one of the few with an Italian-style layout still in use the Greater Montréal region. This performance venue hosts public shows, free and supervised productions by undergraduates, master’s thesis productions, as well as lectures and symposiums organized by the school.

The UQAM administration has recently decided to fully convert the theatre space into a film production studio. This will entail the removal of the entire technical structure, the audience seating and the stage—in short, everything that makes a theatre a theatre.
