La Maison du Bedeau is located in the heart of Old Beloeil, directly across from the Saint-Matthieu-de-Beloeil Church. It was built by the Fabrique to house the beadle and his family.

The house was likely constructed in 1837 and later expanded in the 1890s, notably with the addition of a dormer gable, transforming the attic into a livable floor.

La Maison du Bedeau is a fine example of a village home inspired by Neo-Gothic architecture. It follows the traditional style with its two-sided metal roof. The exterior wooden walls are also noteworthy.

The house was occupied by the Fabrique’s employee (beadle/sacristan) until 1971, when the Fabrique sold the property to Carmen Chinoine, whose family still owns it.

In recent years, the house has needed maintenance and has been put up for sale several times. As of 2022, it remained on the market. Its prime location makes it a sought-after property. Several real estate developers have expressed interest in demolishing the building. Although the structure is severely deteriorated, it still retains all of its original components and remains a gem for the area.

On June 10, 2024, the City of Beloeil’s Built Heritage Preservation Committee approved the demolition request submitted by the new owner of La Maison du Bedeau.

The house was ultimately demolished in 2025.

Since the Bedeau house is located in Old Beloeil, it is covered by two Site Planning and Architectural Integration Programs (SPAIP): the one for Old Beloeil and the one for the properties bordering Richelieu Street.

In the fall of 2022, the municipality of Beloeil wished to adopt a bylaw citing several heritage buildings. The bylaw is in progress and a notice of motion has been filed.

The house is covered by the inventory made by the municipality of Beloeil, updated in 2022. Its heritage value is superior, particularly because of its architecture and its prolonged use as the Bedeau’s house.
