Update June 2018, demolition of the Jardin Domtar has begun. http://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/grand-montreal/201806/16/01-5186084-la-fin-du-jardin-domtar-au-centre-ville.php

Not just pleasing and peaceful as an oasis in the hustle and bustle of downtown, the Domtar Garden is a special place also because it provides us with a rare view of a unique and charming urban ensemble. This is the point at which President Kennedy and Maisonneuve West merge, and the Domtar building, itself a fine example of Modernist architecture gracefully on display, makes for a very handsome completion of the block. The unbuilt and publicly accessible space that this urban park offers, allows us angles of view and a sense of enclosure that are rare within Montreal’s grid. There are few moments in the pedestrian experience of downtown that are as urbane as this. Let us do what we can to keep it. After all, a city is made up of spaces as much as of buildings.
