Vast residence of “Queen Anne” style built originally for Michel Viger, mayor of Longueuil from 1895 to 1898. Another mayor of Longueuil, Henri St-Mars, in office from 1912 to 1915, also lived there. A vast and generous garden once surrounded the property.

The building was once home to the restaurant La Devinière, where the extension was built, in contrast to the more classical style of the house. After a few years of vacancy, the restaurant Le Fleuron moved in, resulting in further changes to the façade.

Since then, the restaurant Le Fleuron has closed its doors and signs “For sale for commercial development” have been installed on the property. Considering that the house is in the heart of the heritage site of Old Longueuil, it is disturbing to see it neglected, especially in a context of densification in the Greater Montreal and Montérégie.

In 2024, another business moved into the building, and the house is now occupied.

Architectural description of the building, taken from the document Site du patrimoine de Longueuil (in French), produced in 2010 by the Société historique et culturelle du Marigot under the direction of Michel Pratt :

“Building of Victorian architecture in the Queen Anne style with an exploded and articulated volume. Its windows are sash windows and the upper sash is surrounded by colored glass: this is a characteristic of the Queen Anne style. The gallery once had a square return. Almost none of the ornamental woodwork remains, except for the finial on the pediment facing Saint-Laurent Street. It should be noted that the entrance hall is covered with an allegorical ceramic fresco of great quality.”

Finally, the residence is inventoried in the Répertoire du patrimoine culturel du Québec (in French) and in the Inventaire du patrimoine bâti de Longueuil (2016-2017) (in French).
