The house, recognized as a heritage immovable by the City of Montreal and located in a protection area, is now in need of major renovations. The City had secured a $959,000 subsidy from the Government of Quebec in February 2014 for repairs to the cladding, but says the cost of that work has since ballooned to $2.8 million from $1.8 million because of the house’s deteriorating structure.
