The new owners of the residence have submitted a demolition permit request to the borough of Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève to tear down the last remaining vestige of what was once a seigneurial estate.

Built in 1913 by Hyacinthe Sauvé, a carpenter, the house was originally intended to accommodate the forest ranger responsible for maintaining the estate. Two farmers, Isidore and Baptiste Proulx, took on this maintenance role, and Joseph Proulx was the last forest ranger to live in this century-old home.

The site was purchased in the mid-1950s to be subdivided into smaller lots intended for residential use. Although no visible remnants of the former seigneury remain today, it is believed that the land holds archaeological potential of interest.

This residence, which has been unoccupied for several years, has unfortunately suffered the effects of neglect. However, the damage is minor and does not render the building beyond repair or inevitably destined for demolition, provided that investment is made in its renovation and maintenance. This would allow for the preservation of a unique witness to the history of Île Bizard.

A written consultation was held prior to the demolition committee meeting of the borough, which took place via videoconference on January 19, 2021. We are awaiting the committee’s conclusions regarding the demolition—and the future—of this remnant of the former Jacques-Bizard seigneury.

In 2022, the demolition permit was approved by the borough. A construction permit for a new house was also issued.

In 2025, the property was put up for sale as a “lot,” allowing the new owner to build a new residence.
