Its neighbours, the Louis-Joseph Forget House and the Mount Royal Club (Lord Atholstan\u2019s residence), have fared better. The Reid-Wilson House site is uninhabited and neglected, though it is occasionally used for film shoots. It is among the rare residential structures along Rue Sherbrooke bearing witness to historic 19th-century Montreal, and which citizens and visitors alike would do well to remember. It was occupied a succession of bankers, then by student residences, a distillery, and a wine merchant. On the Rue Drummond side is the only original bay window. The interior is of significant heritage interest with, among other features, a very fine mahogany staircase and beautiful chimneys in marble and walnut. When left unoccupied, a house deteriorates and is likely to suffer irreparable damage; for proof, one need only recall the sad fate of the Redpath Mansion. The Reid-Wilson House deserves better.<\/p>\n<p>Since my alert in 2017, the fate of this beautiful house seems to have taken a more positive turn. In fact, M Immobilier acquired the property to establish its offices there. The former stables located behind the house have been transformed into stunning workspaces. I haven&#8217;t been able to verify it myself, but according to what is being said, the owner has done a good job preserving the interiors of both buildings. The house is now much better maintained and occupied. Bravo!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description by<\/strong> <strong>Dean Bergmame:<\/strong><br \/>\nIt is one of the few remaining mansions downtown on Sherbrooke Street. The building has been vacant for some time except when in use for filming. Vagrants are frequently seen &#8220;camping&#8221; on the site. The garden in front of the building is not being maintained and the grounds are often full of litter.
