The building is one of the last remaining examples of the Champlain Oil Company&#8217;s gas stations, built in a Canadian architectural style with a pitched roof and the characteristic metal batten. Despite this singular character, the building has no heritage recognition status at either the municipal or provincial level.<\/p>\n<p>Two other Champlain stations of the same architectural style still exist today: <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Station-service_Champlain_Oil\">one in Champlain near Trois-Rivi\u00e8res (in French)<\/a>, which was cited as a heritage building in 2010 by the local municipality, and another in the Ottawa area.<\/p>\n<p>A demolition permit was issued in 2023. The developer who acquired the land plans to construct a three-storey building with commercial spaces on the ground floor and residential units on the upper
